TRADITION MEETS MODERN CRAFT: WETHERBY CELEBRATES DROVERS DAY WITH VIBRANT LITTLE BIRD MADE ARTISAN MARKET

This Sunday, 14 June, the historic market town of Wetherby is set to travel back in time while celebrating the very best of modern Yorkshire creativity. The town will host its annual Drovers Day celebrations alongside the highly anticipated Little Bird Artisan Market.

Organised by the Wetherby District Lions Club and the Wetherby Bandstand Trust, Drovers Day commemorates the 150 year history of highland cattle drovers who walked livestock from Scotland down to the south of England, using Wetherby’s famous river crossing as a crucial stopover. Right in the heart of the festivities, the Little Bird Artisan Market, will surround the historic Wetherby Town Hall and marketplace from 10am.

Curated to celebrate small, independent creators, the outdoor market will feature a spectacular lineup of Yorkshire’s finest makers, bakers and designers. Visitors can browse everything from locally sourced cheeses, chutneys and jams, to craft spirits and handcrafted jewellery, original artwork, homeware and garden accessories and furniture. The town will be a vibrant scene of shopping, music and colour with the prestigious Drovers Brass Band Marching and Hymn Contest. Brass bands from across Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire and the North East will compete throughout the day, filling the air with music.

“Our markets are designed to be more than just a shopping trip, they are a true community event. Teaming up with the energy of Drovers Day creates an unforgettable atmosphere. We encourage everyone to come down, meet the incredible artisans behind the products, listen to the brass bands, and make a full day of it in this stunning riverside town.”

Ryan Pearson, owner of Bird & Bramble garden accessories, said, “Wetherby is a classic, bustling market town with a fantastic community spirit, and the fact that there is plenty of free parking makes it accessible for families looking for a great day out. We love telling visitors, come for the famous fish and chips, but stay for the incredible artisan market. It is the perfect excuse to explore the town, support independent traders and soak up a bit of local history.”
